The Drapers’ Almshouse Charity is preparing proposals for the future of its almshouse properties at Edmanson’s Close in Bruce Grove, Tottenham.
Many thousands have benefitted from the homes at Edmanson’s Close since they were built in 1869. But they were built when needs and expectations were very different and although improved over time, they now fall short of modern standards of accommodation.
As so many are no longer occupied, there is a unique opportunity for the Charity to improve accommodation across the Close, while also continuing its charitable aims. Proposals include refurbishing the almshouses so they are fit for modern use, providing a variety of new homes suitable for a range of future residents long into the future, and offering the few remaining residents more suitable new homes on the site.
The Charity has been consulting with residents, the Council and local interest groups, but before going further we want to hear local people’s views on the proposals while we are developing them.
You will find more about the proposals on this website, which we will be keeping updated with developments. You can also let us have your views by completing our short survey, which you will find on the Public Exhibition page along with more details about our ideas and plans.
